Shimmick is seeking a talented Safety, Health & Environmental Specialist  area to oversee occupational health and safety programs, analyze trends, and ensure compliance with regulations to safeguard a large project or all projects in the region. Your role involves providing technical expertise, conducting safety orientations and reviewing safety procedures. Collaborate with industry experts and committed teams to promote a safe working environment.

Shimmick takes on challenging projects and performs high-quality work ranging from expanding/constructing water and wastewater treatment plants to construction of the new Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach, CA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under general supervision, performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards along with state and federal retulatory requirements.
  • Leverages degree and/or prior experience to advise on a variety of SH%E topics.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring for hazards that could be present in the work area.
  • Works with others to investigate accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Participates in recommending improvement in processes, design, procedures and equipment to minimize hazards.
  • Participates in employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Engineering.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with employees.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with safety management software.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

The salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $105,000 per year depending on experience and/or education as well as geographic location.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
