Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Quality Field / Welding Inspector based out of Chattanooga, TN.  This challenging position will provide an excellent growth opportunity while improving the infrastructure of the city.

National Division

Shimmick’s National Division operates throughout the central and eastern United States and focuses on water resources including locks, dams, levees and flood control, many along the nation’s coasts and inland waterways. Comprised of legacy companies Morrison Knudsen, Washington Group International, and others, Shimmick’s National Division has decades-long history of delivering projects for repeat clients like New Jersey Transit, where Shimmick has been operating and maintaining the Hudson-Bergen Rail Line for more than 20 years.

The National Division has also delivered numerous projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the water resources sector along the nation’s inland waterways and coastlines. One such project was the new Olmsted Dam on the Ohio River, where according to USACE, more commerce traverses than any other location on the entire U.S. inland waterways. With the Olmsted lock and dam replacement, economic net benefits to the nation are estimated to be more than $640 million annually.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, specifications, contract drawings, and associated standards.
  • Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records, weld tracking logs & maps.
  • Tracks quality assurance progress and oversees non-destructive testing operations.
  • Maintains welder performance records and testing percentages.
  • Inspects welding and pertaining metals to application codes D1.1, 1.5, and 1.6.
  • Review WPS's and field controls for all applicable welding.
  • Performs material receipt inspection for fabricated and client furnished items.
  • Issues daily visual inspection reports for inspection.
  • Works with Quality Assurance representatives for all welding operations.
  • Assists Production team with implementation of quality requirements, reviews submittals, work plans, and test register for contract conformance.
  • Tracks Material Test Reports, Cert's of Conformance for consumables and base metals.
  • Reports to Quality Control Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • MEP experience preferred
  • Previous experience working on a USACE (US Army Corp of Engineers) project
  • Concrete experience

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

The salary range for this position is between $37.00 - 47.00 per hour depending on experience and/or education.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
