Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Safety Specialist based out of Huntington Beach, CAThis challenging position will provide an excellent growth opportunity while improving the infrastructure of the city.

Shimmick is a national Contractor that has an excellent reputation within the industry and is seeking a qualified individual to join our Southwest Division.  Shimmick takes on challenging projects and performs high-quality work ranging from expanding/constructing water and wastewater treatment plants to construction of the new Gerald Desmond Bridge.

Electrical Division

Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. Shimmick offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty work offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE. 

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor daily field operations to ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.

  • Support project teams in the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).

  • Facilitate safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and new hire orientations.

  • Maintain safety documentation, reports, and records as required by OSHA and company policy.

  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, document findings, and assist with root cause analysis.

  • Provide technical safety support and guidance to field personnel.

  • Assist in implementing site-specific safety plans and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).

  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure they meet safety standards and expectations.

  • Stay current with OSHA and industry safety standards and best practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering + 4 years of experience in safety within construction or a related industry or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to maintain 3 points of contact.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification .

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA 1926).

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

  • CPR/First Aid certification

Additional Information: 

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. 
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization. 

The salary range for this position is between $105,000.00 - 110,000.00 per year depending on experience and/or education.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
