Responsibilities

A key member of the Corporate Accounting team, the Assistant Corporate Controller will report to the Corporate Controller and will have direct oversight over the accounts payable and payroll transactional teams as well as assist in the management of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting operations including, but not limited to, external audit support, joint venture reporting, technical accounting and development/maintenance of a strong control environment.  The Assistant Corporate Controller will be expected to collaborate cross-functionally to bring accuracy, integrity and timeliness to the Company’s general ledger operations, monthly close process and financial reporting.  Although a leadership role, this position is a hands-on, working manager with individual contributor requirements as well as leadership and management responsibilities.

 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with management of the Corporate Accounting department including general ledger, A/R and asset management, and management reporting. Direct supervision of the day-to-day and long-term strategic functioning of the accounts payable and payroll teams. 
  • Support various ongoing accounting and reporting initiatives including ERP and other ancillary system implementations and upgrades as well as process enhancements with focus on improving system efficiencies, internal controls and business processes in conjunction with leadership.
  • Effectively lead department staff by coaching, developing, communicating, delegating, and holding staff accountable. Create a team-oriented environment which motivates staff and keeps employees engaged in their jobs and the Company.
  • Work with leadership to establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Design, establish and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provide research/guidance as needed for various accounting and reporting issues as they arise in areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, joint ventures as well as significant or unusual transactions.
  • Active participation in support of the external annual audit process. Manage internal controls applicable to department in support of external and internal audits.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related field + 10 years of related experience demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong U.S. GAAP accounting and SOX controls experience
  • Combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience highly valued
  • Strong fundamental accounting and reporting skills including general ledger and subledger operations, monthly close cycle, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Background in construction or job cost accounting preferred but not required.
  • Experience in using a widely recognized ERP system such as NetSuite, SAP or Oracle.  Experience with CMiC is a plus
  • Experience in managing accounts payable and/or payroll operations
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Ability to present complex issues in a simple logical and succinct manner with confidence and precision
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Effective organization and planning skills coupled with ability to work in a dynamic environment and execute activities to satisfy departmental and company objectives.

Additional Information:

  • The salary range for this position is between $110,000 - 140,000 per year depending on experience and/or education
